Feel The Cold Air

When creating abstract conceptual pieces, I always have a feeling in mind. Something that has moved me to make me want to recreate the way it made me feel. On a cold New England day, I was INSPIRED by the frost and cold outside on a particularly chilly morning. I rummaged through my house looking for colors, items, and materials that would help me to construct my image. Unconventional items such as tissue paper, shredded packing, water, Elmer's glue, and lace ribbon. All are layered between glass and shot outside on my camera over grass.

I wanted to include whites and blues because these are the colors that make me think of ice and snow and all things cold. I allowed a little bit of the faded grass in my lawn to show through as if it was lightly covered with snow showing through. It appears to be frozen in time as the whole natural world seems to be frozen in time during winter.

Feeling the cold air to me evokes memories of childhood. Iceskating with my brother and father, trying to balance and perfect the skill of balance, falling over and over on the hard, frigid ice as I mastered the skill. It means sledding for hours with my brother and neighborhood children and friends as we made jumps and flew down the hillside cold snow spraying in our faces as the cold air whipped around us. It means snowball fights and snowman making until the cold penetrates every single layer of socks, snow-pants, jackets, gloves, hats, and scarves until you can not take it any more and you have to go in and drink the hot chocolate that your mother made for you.

I hope this EVOKES in you a little WINTER chill ❄️🧊❄️
